3 pm   “Mayberry Modernism” Presentation

Location: Show floor in the 1950’s Living Room

George Smart, President of North Carolina Modernist Houses presents “Mayberry Modernism”. Mr. Smart will share the story of how North Carolina came to have the third largest concentration of Modernist houses in America.

Enjoy this visual journey, while sitting in a 1950’s-themed living room vignette, complete with vintage projector screen.  Revel in seeing 60 years of NC award-winning architectural design and discover the key architects and influencers in NC modernist history. Smart will also discuss the differences between Modernist and contemporary architecture and why these livable-works-of-art are slowly disappearing. The significance of these historical buildings is explored and what can be done to preserve them for future generations.

5-7 pm   Glamper Showcase

Raleigh’s first vintage trailer tour. Come meet the owners, admire the truly inspired decorating and hear stories of their adventures. The camp lights will be glowing and campfires going. The Glamper Showcase will feature all different makes, models, and sizes of these mobile houses. Glamping (glamorous + camping) has become popular in the last several years through the growth of groups like Sisters on the Fly and Girl Camper. However, they are not just for camping anymore. Some of these beauties have a permanent home in backyards and are used as “she-sheds” and guest quarters. Some are even available to rent for your next party.
